Margin Seed Points

12×12 mat — 8.50″ × 11.00″ — 25 strokes

Sol LeWitt's Wall Drawing #118: points placed at random across the sheet but distributed evenly over it, and every pair of them joined by a straight line. Fifty points is twelve hundred and twenty-five lines and some five hundred feet of them, so it is by a long way the longest of these to draw. It is also the shortest to describe and the cheapest to lift: the complete graph gives every point the same degree, so an odd number of them has every degree even and the whole drawing is one closed Euler circuit — a single pen-down for the lot. At LeWitt's own fifty every degree is odd instead and it takes twenty-five, which is the fewest any decomposition could manage. Slide the count by one and watch the stroke readout. Even spacing is best-candidate sampling, not rejection: each point is the furthest of a dozen tries from everything already down, which is what 'evenly distributed' has to mean for a seeded drawing.
