Every way of choosing from flat, upright and the two diagonals, one to a cell: four cells of one direction, six of two, four of three and the one of all four, which is fifteen and is all of them. The completeness is the piece, so the seed only shuffles which cell each combination lands in — LeWitt's own orderings differ between drawings and the sequence was never the content. Each direction is a serpentine turning on the cell's own border, and each takes its own pen, so a cell of two colours makes the secondary where they cross: that is the reason for drawing them rather than filling them. The count is a flat or upright hatching's, since it is the one that can be counted — one line halves the cell, and the three diagonals that meet it cut the cell in four. Ask for a grid that is not fifteen and it takes whole shuffled sets in turn, so any fifteen consecutive cells are still all fifteen.
